Google Pixel 6

New York City, NY

I creative directed several animators creating nine onscreen animations that allowed guests to experience Pixel 6’s newest camera features. The goal of the animations was to demonstrate the power of Pixel’s camera while fostering a gallery feel to showcase the high quality photo output. I also assisted in final animation updates on-site where needed.

The Brief

Google came to Deeplocal to craft an interactive experience for guest to experience the power of Pixel 6's camera. The experience is set in the flagship Google Store in NYC, specifically inside a Sandbox room: rooms inside the Google Store that bring the magic of their hardware to life.

The Process

Working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment, we started off the process unpacking the brief, assigning specific roles, setting up testing sessions, and scheduling several site visits to the store in New York.

My Role

There were several key pieces of my role on the project.

First, I led the UX design of the experience. Being that this was an interactive experience inside of a retail setting, it was essential that I took the time to understand the journey of a guest inside the store, their intentions that brought them to the store, and what elements of the store caught their attention and why. From there, my findings allowed me to tailor my approach to the brief and better understand ways of engaging the Google guest to draw them into the Sandbox Room.

Second, I creative directed several freelance animators for the nine on-screen animations presented inside of the Sandbox Room. As the only creative leading the animators, I started the process as if I was animating these screens myself. I started by providing and sourcing a collection of inspiration for my vision of the animations for the animators to reference. Due to the very tight timeline, daily working sessions and biweekly creative reviews were scheduled to ensure the creative vision was met with precision and pixel-perfection. This process continued until we were on-site for the launch and QA began for a final time. Upon approval, final handoff was completed and the experience was live in the store.

Inspiration

We were so inspired by the quality of the photos from Pixel 6 that presenting the work in a gallery environment felt natural. To showcase the breadth of native editing tool on Pixel 6's operating system, we paired these stellar photos with animations, such as wipes or fades, to emphasis the power of the editing tools through before and afters.

Final Work

The final work was debuted on launch day of Pixel 6, making it a truly memorable day for guests coming into the store to purchase the new phone.
